Hello, Hello!
Whatās good with you? The *Very Good Thing* was that Bertram finally healed up from his month long ordeal with a scratched cornea, and heās now cone of shame, contact lens, and (fancy)-free! What a relief! This week felt both very long and very short, and Iām bracing myself for a full (but hopefully good!) week ahead.
Today we aimed for a mix of leisure and āget your shit togetherā activities. I woke slowly, finished Sandersonās āWay of Kingsā, which was a thousand *riveting* pages this week. I did a little bit of co-working with some folks all getting organized and going over their calendars for the week ahead. I prepped for a presentation Iām giving in the morning. I went for a long walk with the dog, and stopped by our neighbors to play with the kiddos and pick up some Shalach Manot (baskets of treats for the Jewish holiday, Purim!)
This week Iām aiming to tackle some nagging tasks (Iām looking at you, taxes), and find room for joy and creativity.
Good Things This Week
š® Korean Barbecue. My friend Kathy and I went to our monthly bucket-list-meal at Naksan. I frequently crave Korean food, and weāre lucky to have lots of options in the Boston area! We got the beef combo, which came with an egg souffle, and kimchi beef stew (this particular one tasted so much like a Turkish meat and cabbage stew I like to make that it made my brain tickle!)
š·Signs of Spring. Iām feeling thankful for them! Spring Crocus (Croci?) of many colors everywhere, hen and chicks popping up. Iām glad I didnāt pre-emptively do any real planting or take my pots out, because I was *not* expecting the cold front. Fortunately, it seems like everything around here is hanging on!
š Copper Cow Churro Coffee. I drink my daily coffee black, but my weekend coffee I make fancy as a "special treatā for myself. Recently, Iāve been smitten by the taste of this Copper Cow coffee with a really potent cinnamon, and a packet of their sweetened condensed milk. Thereās something about the particular cinnamon they use that is just perfect. (You can get it now at Target and Whole Foods.)
ā Trivia. After a few months away, Team Meme and Bumpa was back last week for TriviaMafia Trivia. We would have tied for second but somehow the software missed one of our answers! Thereās something delightful about having a well rounded team. I love that we can gather people together from around the country to have a few hours of fun!
šµš»āāļø User Interviews a.k.a. Talk To Your Customers! Whether in business for yourself, or working for an organization, pretty much every role can be dramatically improved by spending more time just talking to your customers. Danielle and I did a quick interview with an Ompractice student this week on a new feature that truly blew my mind in how many immediate insights came out of it!
š„ Pudding Quest: I love pudding of all kinds and have been thinking of a pudding quest, in which I slowly work through cooking and eating great puddings of the world. In the interim, Iāve been eating a large amount of La FermiĆØre pudding cups and will have to find something to do with all of the little glass jars Iām collecting.
Other Good Things
šŗ Watch:Ā Iāve been watching The Gentlemen on Netflix, from Guy Ritchie, about complicated family inheritance and escalating bad choices. Also mid-way through Shogun, and looking forward to watching Poor Things and American Fiction this week. I started Mr. and Mrs. Smith (the new one) and couldnāt get into it. (And notes for when I watch Irish Wish.)
š Articles: Jasmin Paris was the first woman to win the Barkley Marathons this week (I couldnāt look away!!) Highly recommend the Barkley Marathons documentary. Fun Fact, my 2020 vice was completing 1270 miles of a virtual race in 4 months ā created by the same evil genius mastermind, Laz Lake.
š§ Emotions: I was THRILLED when HAZEL WAS FOUND!!
š Resources: Jack Black makes the case for turning on subtitles for kids! (It improves literacy, and is generally a better experience for everyone.) Also, his mom was a literal rocket scientist, so of course he loves science.
š¤£ Memes of the week: āYou bite, you get bitten.ā Tortoises can feel through their shell! (Adorableness with Robert Irwin) // Pulling an ALL DAYER.
The Weekly Meal Plan
Spring is here! The past two weeks Iāve found myself eating a bigger assortment of bits and bobs rather than composed meals, and Iām looking to fix that a little bit! I realize Iāve also not made a bean of the week in a while, so Iām going to make a nice dressed bean salad to take me through some of my lunches for the week.
Rancho Gordo Bean of the Week: Mayacoba
Sunday: Saucy Scallops, mushrooms, and beans
Monday: Chicken Teriyaki, bok choy, and rice
Tuesday: Pork chop with paprikash mustard, buttery zucchini, and rice
Wednesday: Salmon rice bowl with leftover vegetables and lots of ginger
Thursday: Lemon yogurt shrimp pasta with tahini and cheddar (donāt knock it!)
Friday: Baked fish in tomato sauce with cilantro chutney
Saturday: Take Out
Lunches: chicken thighs, bean salad, canned fish with crunchy veg salad - peppers, tomatoes, marinated artichokes; tadka dal with yogurt.
Snacks: Soft boiled eggs, cheese sticks, Turkey Chomps.
Treat: Trader Joeās Lemon Sheet Cake. Chocolate mousse. TJās Iced Gingerbread in the freezer. Hot Cocoa. Popcorn! (Iām on a popcorn kick as itās very easy to make.)
Thatās all for now! Hope you have a great week!
xo, Sam
